At least two German newspapers received an invitation to submit a song for the German national selection, Countdown Grand Prix 2003. Eurosong.be wrote that today.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS) and the Berlin newspaper die tageszeitung (taz) will both send in one composition for the German selection. The FAS already selected singer Tobias Schacht, who is well-known in Germany under his artist name Der Junge mit der Gitarre (The Boy with the Guitar) from the song 'Meer seh'n ('To see the sea'). The song he will perform at the German Countdown Grand Prix 2003 is unknown yet.

The FAS was invited to submit a song from organising broadcaster NDR, following an critical article in the newspaper that claimed that “everybody is singing the same and this, if possible, in english”. The FAS is sending Schacht as “a musical experiment”, hoping that the final could turn again from what they call a “horror cabinet to an interesting, demanding show”.

taz already composed a melody for the song that the newspaper will submit, the readers are invited to write the lyrics.

Last year, Isabel Soares was selected by the readers to enter the national final on behalf of Bild, performing the song 'Will my heart survive'. She only came sixth in the final.
