Dervish, this year's Irish representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest, will be giving a free concert next Saturday, July 28th, in Batz-sur-Mer, a French city on the Atlantic ocean, 85 km west of Nantes. Dervish's new album, which is expected soon will contain a song written by Cher.

Batz (to be pronounced "Ba") has been organising a Celtic festival since 2002, with some great names of the Irish scene.More information can be found here.

After France, Dervish will be leaving for the USA to participate in this year's ICONS Festival in Canton, MA. There they will be giving two concerts on August 11 and 12 before they return for more concerts in Ireland and Italy.

Dervish's new album The travelling show is expected at the end of the summer and it will contain a track written by Cher called Gypsies, tramps and thieves. "We're very excited about it. It's more of a modern departure for us. We always like to push the boundaries. It's still very folkie … but it's kind of contemporary. There's a song on it written by Cher called 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves' that translates very well into a traditional Irish song. And there are a couple that I wrote myself. Overall, the arrangements are bigger and we have a lot of guests on there, like Steve Wickham from the Waterboys, and Rick Epping, who used to play with Pumpkinhead.'' says Cathy Jordan, the Dervish lead singer.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
