Sergio revealed his uninterest in taking part of the Belgian national selection at an interview with a Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. He had already been contacted by the Belgian broadcaster. The main reason for not wanting to take part is his transfer from one broadcaster to another one – from VRT to VTM.

"I know that I announced last year that I'd take part again but I was transferred from VRT to VTM. It might be better not to put my energy in Eurosong anymore," Sergio said. "As a VTM presenter, you cannot win this contest. And I don't want toappear at the a contest that I've lost in advance anyway." Headded thathealso wants to focus on his new songs.

Sergio participated at the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn and reached the 13th position.
