LRT, the Lithuanian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Lithuania will select its 2015 Eurovision entry and representative via a national selection culminating in a national final scheduled to be held in Vilnius at the end of February.
The Lithuanian national selection Eurovizijos is scheduled to kick off next January and will consist of 8 televised shows. There will be 2 finals: one to select the song and another one to select the singer. Hereafter the song will be matched to the singer during the grand final which will be held at the end of February in the Lithuanian capital.
LRT will use the same method and mechanism as in 2014 to select its Eurovision act and entry for Vienna. Singers, artists and composers wishing to enter the competition can do so by submitting their applications to LRT. The song and artist application submission will kick off in due course.
Composers from all over the world will be eligible to enter the competition and submit their respective songs and entries.Whilst singers/artists are required to be citizens of Lithuania in order to participate in the national selection and thus represent Lithuania at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
Eurovizijos has proven to be a very successful format in Lithuania as it attracted a lot of viewers during the 2014 season gearing up a lot of interest and anticipation. The selection was extended due to public demand and high tv ratings.
In 2014 LRT opted to select the 2014 Lithuanian act and entry via a national selection- Eurovizijos. Vilija Matačiūnaitė won the 2014 Lithuanian national final and flew the Lithuanian flag in Copenhagen with her entry Attention. Unfortunately she did not qualify to the grand final.
Lithuania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at Europe’s favourite television show was in 2006 when LT United achieved a 6th placing in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Athens.
The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the Wiener Statdhalle in Vienna on 19, 21 and 23 May.
