Tonight, Iceland has held their national final for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. The televoters have decided that they want to be represented by Eiríkur Hauksson in the semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Ég les í lófa þínum. The entry had to be performed in Icelandic in the national final but may be performed in any other language in Helsinki. Eiríkur won by a landslide, getting a stunning 60% of the televote.

Eiríkur Hauksson was a member of the group Icy, the very first Icelandic representatives (16th with Gleðibankinn). In 1991, he was a member of Just 4 fun, the Norwegian representatives. They finished 17th with Mrs. Thompson.
The heavy metal vocalist was born on 4th July 1959 in Iceland but moved to Østfoldin Norway in 1988. He played an important role in the Icelandic pop music scene during the 1980s, although his interest went with the heavy metal genre. Among others, he has sung for the Icelandicgroup Start and the Norwegian group Artch. Eiríkur was alsoin Iceland'sof singers who recorded Hjálpum þeim,an equivalent of Do they know it's Christmas? and We are the world.
Erikur has been for many years the Icelandic commentator in the Nordic previews with Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. He is a clear favourite with fans as he is quite outspoken by character and doesn't always go with what is politically correct.
