Germany: Wild card qualifiers announced

Earlier today, NDR, the official German broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest, announced the 10 participants who have qualified to the wild card battle which will take place on the 27 February at the Edelfettwerk club.

More than 2,200 young artists in total submitted their videos via YouTube and after a deliberation, NDR have selected the 10 lucky participants who will take part in the wild card selection.

The wild card participants will be listed below with their home cities being listed in brackets.

  • Caroline Rose (Paris)
  • Cassie Greene (Hamburg)
  • Elaiza (Berlin)
  • Max Krumm (Oberhausen)
  • Melanie Schlüter (Frankenthal)
  • Nicole Milik (Neuss)
  • Simon Glöde (Flensburg)
  • Valentina (Cologne)

The wild card show will take place on the 27 February at the Edelfettwerk club in Hamburg, which will be broadcast live on both NDR Fernsehen and EinsPlus. The show will also be available to watch via an online webcast. Hosted by Barbara Schöneberger and Janin Reinhardt, the show will begin at 22:00 CET where the 10 participants will perform their entries in front of the public for the first time. The viewing public will then be able to vote via televoting and SMS for their favourite artist. The winner will then go on to join the 7 preselected artists (Das Gezeichnete Ich, Madeline Juno, MarieMarie, Oceana, Santiano, The Baseballs and Unheilig) who will then take part in the German national final Unser Song für Dänemark on the 13 March.

Last year, Cascada won the German national final Unser Song für Malmö with their song Glorious, therefore earning the right to represent their country at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. Automatically qualifying to the grand final, Cascada ended in 21st place with a total of 18 points.
