The first Lithuanian quarter final was held last Saturday. Four songs and music acts were announced to have reached the semi finals – Slapjack, Sweetness Theory, Mini-Me and Aliens Run Amuck. As it has now been revealed by broadcast LRT, there was a mistake in the voting: Aliens Run Amuck are out while Barbë-Q will reach the semi finals.
In Lithuania, the winners of the quarter finals are determined by a jury and televoting. Firstly, three judges voted for their favourite songs in the style of the Eurovision Song Contest (1-8 points, 10 points, 12 points). Later, the results of thetelevoting were added, multiplied by 4.Eventually, Barbë-Q and Aliens Run Amuck were tying for fourth place. The official rules say that in that case, the singer who received more points in the televoting will qualify. Barbë-Q have received 20 points in the telvoting, Aliens Run Amuck only 16. Therefore, Barbë-Q should have qualified.
Lithunian broadcaster obviously have chosen one of the most complicated ways toselect their representative in this year's national final season: Actually, three quarter finals were supposed to take place, a green, a yellow and red one for newcomers, semi-established and established perfomers respectively. Since two of the singers who would have competed in the "red" group have withdrawn, the songs of the third heat are directly qualified for the semi finals. Furthermore, the Litunianian broadcaster has also commissioned two entries to be directly qualified for the final.
Whoever will win the selection is directly qualified for the final in 2007 since LT United have finished 6th in Athens with We are the winners.
