Tonight, the second semi final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, the Icelandic national selection, took place. Eight songs competed and the top three, chosen by televoting, qualified for the final. The three lucky contestants were chosen during a 35 minutes lasting televoting period.

Jón Jósep Snæbjörnsson('Jónsi') represented Iceland in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest where he fnished 17th with Heaven. Eiríkur Hauksson was a member of the group ICY, the very first Icelandic representatives (16tg with Gleðibankinn). In 1991, he was a member of Just 4 Fun, the Norwegian representatives. They finished 17th with Mrs. Thompson.

Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007 will take place on Saturday 17th February. The three semi-finals will take place on 20th January, 27th January and 3rd February. The songs must be performed in Icelandic in the national semi finals and final but can be performed in English, or another language, at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir will host the shows.

Iceland finished 13th in the 2006 semi final with Silvia Night an Congratulations. Therefore, the winner of the Icelandic final will have to enter the qualification heat in Helsinki.
