The allegations that the song Make it, submitted by Giulia Nahmany in the Romanian pre selection, was very similar to Risin' by Belgian singer Natalia, were proven to be true. As a result, the song was disqualified, so we will see eleven songs in the first Romanian semi final on Saturday 27 January.

As it was first reported by our partner site Belgovision.com a few days ago, the two songs sounded suspiciously similar, sharing the same structure. The matter was investigated and today it was confirmed by EMI Music Publishing Romania SRL, the distribution company of Risin´, as well as other TVR music experts that it is indeed a case of plagiarism.

Dan Manoliu, Head of the Romanian National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, stated: "We regret what happened but if we had ignored this situation, we would have risked turning this contest into a masquerade". Mr Manoliu went on to say that he respects Giulia as an artist, but he hopesTVR's immediate actionwill serve as a warning to anyone who doesn't take the contest seriously.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
