Tonight, the first semi final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007 took place. Eight sings competed and the top five, chosen by televoting, qualified for the final. The three lucky contestants were chosen during a 35 minutes lasting televoting period.

Bríet Sunna ValdemarsdóttirBlómabörn

The singer, wearing a red dress, presents a quite typical pop ballad. The song is illustrated by two background dancers, dressed in silver, who appear to be very limber.

Snorri SnorrasonOrðin komu aldrei

The performance is quite simple:Snorri Snorrason issitting, followed by a guitar player.The ballad is nothing special, but well performed and it was well received by the audience.

Aðalheiður ÓlafsdóttirEnginn eins og þú

The American composer chose a very classical arrangement for the song. To illustrate it, the singer was wearing a white dress, surrounded by violin players. The vocal performance is very strong.

Silvia Night, the 2006 representative now enters the stage. As expected, she makes a grand entrance, throwing flowers, being surrounded by herbodyguards.

Finnur JóhannessonAllt eða ekki neitt

The first rock song of the evening, performed in Icelandic. The band consists ofgreat musicians but the overall performance is quite simple.

Sigurjón BrinkÁfram

A song which is quite similar to the previous one. The singer has a very strong voice, maybe too energetic for some people. The band members keep doing a strange knee swing.

Bergþór SmáriÞú gafst mér allt

Another simple performance. The singer is playing the guitar while presenting his song, kind of a rock inspired ballad.

Hreimur HeimissonDraumur

The singer is backed by a complete band, including two guitar players, a drummer and a keyboarder. The song is similar to the previous ones but appears to be more 'special'. It is well received by the audience.

Matthías MatthíassonHúsin hafa augu

The singer, another good one, and his two guitar players are sitting on bar stools. The song is obviously the most complex one.

After a 15 minutes lasting break, the second part of the show began.

Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007 will take place on Saturday 17th February. The three semi-finals will take place on 20th January, 27th January and 3rd February. The songs must be performed in Icelandic in the national semi finals and final but can be performed in English, or another language, at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir will host the shows.

Iceland finished 13th in the 2006 semi final with Silvia Night an Congratulations. Therefore, the winner of the Icelandic final will have to enter the qualification heat in Helsinki.
