Last night's TVE show Misión Eurovisión did not manage to come close, let alone beat, the popular comedy show Los Serrano on Telecinco, House, the series on channel Cuatro, or even a film about King Arthur on Antena channel.

Los Serrano was watched by an average of 4.739.000 viewers (24,4% share) peaking at 6.584.000 viewers (32.6%), House got 3.749.000 (18.6% share), King Arthur, a film on Antena got 2.881.000 viewers (16.7% share) and Misión Eurovisión followed by a mere 2.107.000 viewers (13.3%).

The day chosen by TVE to have Misión Eurovisión was a "difficult" day to begin with. Los Serrano is an extremely popular show running for six seasons now, and House, is becoming increasingly popular among younger people in particular. Of course compared to other countries, even those with far shorter tradition of participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, the Spanish audience has shown disappointingly low interest in the country's selection.

Last year Las Ketchup finished a disappointing 21st in the Final for the 51st Eurovision Song Contest with Bloody Mary. However, due to Spain's status as a"Big 4" member (along with Germany, France and the UK), they remain automatically qualified for this year's final in Helsinki.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
