The successful Swiss Eurodance musician DJ BoBo who recently celebrated his 39th birthday and who' ll represent Switzerland in Helsinki in the 52nd Eurovision Song Contest is planning to visit Eastern European countries to promote his song. René Baumann aka DJ BoBo seems to know what East Europeans love.
"Our song sounds exactly the way which goes down well in the Balkans", he said. "No romanticism, nothing heart-warming, just powerful beats, stomping disco pop which is appreciated in Russia, Poland and Hungary". And he adds: "30 out of 43 voting countries can be classified as Eastern. If they all give us points, we can easily win."However, there are no plans to use Croatian or Hungarian language: "I will sing in English, anything else would not suit me".
DJ BoBo is well known already In these countries with more than 200 golden records. His debut album Dance with me was number one on the hit parades in countries such as Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic for months. "The plan is ingenious", believes also a music expert, Rolf Schlup, who has been a consultant for30 years toSwiss music companies. “Humans of these countries stand totally on Technobeats and on Eurodance tracks'' Schlup said. The Swiss entry will be revealed in early February. DJ BoBo announced that it will be a tune "one either loves or hates" .
When he was asked about last year's Swiss entry DJ BoBo said: "Last year I really wanted to get excited watching the contest, but I couldn't. It just did not touch me. It had nothing to do with myself, with my country." Previously, ina press conference, when he announced his participation in the contest , he told reporters that "it's a shame for Swiss tax payer money from the TV licence fees to go to fund a foreign act, and the people should resist that."
And what about a bad result in Helsinki? DJ BoBo commented: "You cannot kill 15 years of success within 3 minutes", he claimed. The Swiss paper BLICK promises: "Well, if we do not stand a chance of winning now, then we should definitely bury the project 'Eurovision Song Contest' … There could not have been a more top-notch choice … Or how many other Helvetic musicians can establish proof of concerts in 44 countries, 13 million sold sound carriers and over 80 awards?"
Let's wait and see if the Eastern European promo tour will offer to Switzerland its' third victory. Switzerland took first place at the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 with Lys Assia and her song Refrain and again in 1988 with Céline Dion and Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi . Last year in Athens Six4one ended 16th with 30 points and for this reason in Helsinki Switzerland will have to compete in the semi final.
