Gerard James Borg, who has become one of the most successful Eurovision Song Contest writers is after another victory again this year. He spoke to esctoday.com editor Ilari Karhapää about these songs and his past participations, his disappointments and successes, foreign participations and of course the glittery stuff! He also reveals his favourite website for Eurovision related information�.

Gerard James Borg is one of Malta�s most successful songwriters, who has written for the Eurovision Song Contest already three times (Desire in 2000, 7th wonder in 2002 and On again� off again in 2004). He has also penned the runner ups in 2001 (Spellbound) and 2005 (Déjà vu). Together with Philip Vella he also brought the first ever 2nd placing for Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest with 7th wonder in 2002. His songs have also reached the national selections in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Belgium and twice in Norway (5th in 2005 with Velvet Blue, and 3rd in 2006 with Queentastic�s ever so popular Absolutely Fabulous).He is back this year in full force with three songs in the Malta finals: My Love by Isabelle, Night Wish by AnnaBelle and Olivia Lewis� Vertigo.

Besides writing for Eurovision, he has contributed to several singles and albums both in Malta, and in foreign countries, working with some of the most distinguished composers on different song projects. His works range from pop to rock, and from ballads to soul and hip hop.Few might know that before he started writing songs, this versatile artist was also involved in fashion design and one of his designs made it to the front cover of an international German magazine. In his spare time he enjoys painting abstracts, photography and plans to start working on a novel in the near future! Tell us more about your entries in Malta this year. You have three!Yes three! Three times the pressure and stress, but somehow I enjoy it!

How did you get started with writing songs, and Eurovision especially?

Actually, I remember watching Mary Spiteri perform the Maltese entry in Malmö 1992 and thinking that one day I�d love to write a song for Eurovision. So a few years later I set myself a goal and started writing! Then I met Philip Vella and we tried out a song together, and it was history since then! Ironically my first win took me to Sweden! So that was how I started writing for Eurovision, but I also have written several other songs which have nothing to do with the contest, whatsoever.

Tell us more about Queentastic. Are there any projects together?

Thomas G:son and I wrote Absolutely Fabulous together for them after a friend saw them perform and told me about them. I really enjoyed the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix last year. NRK were great hosts, and Thomas, myself and Geir & Dean (Queentastic) really had a great time together. In a way I thought they really did well provided it was an innovative thing for Norway, and that they were not so known before. As in regards to other song projects � YES � there is a �fabulous� song Thomas and I wrote for them!!!!!
