The inital fans' reactions to TRT's selection of Kenan Dogulu to represent Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 appear very positive. Kenan's 10 year successful career and extreme popularity seem to be paying off as he seems to be enjoying unanimous support by the Turkish public. At a packed press conference in Istanbul, Dogulu was finally unveiled as the next Turkish participant earlier today.

Today at the TRT Press Conference held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Istanbul Kenan stated:
"The contest itself will be the driving force in me and I can already feel the whole of Turkey supporting me. So I am sure a great song will come out of this. The easiest way seems to be a song in English, as it will be easier for people all over Europe to understand. But I do want some Turkish words included in the song. Just a few easy words to teach Europe. Eurovision was my childhood dream, and representing Turkey in this contest makes me proud".

There were many that thought that Sibel's Superstar entry in 2006 would have achieved a higher place had it only been sung in English. Of course, that was not up to Sibel at all as TRT dictated that the song should be entirely in Turkish. This rule has now been changed and TRT will allow the song to be performed in a language of Dogulu's choosing, which seems certain to be English.

Sibel finished 11th in the final, meaning that Dogulu will need to qualify from the Eurovision Song Contest semi final on 10th May.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
