TVE extends deadline for Misión Eurovisión

The Spanish broadcaster TVE has announced its decision of postponing the deadline to submit songs and inscribe artists to Misión Eurovisión, the national preselection for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. The new dates are now set for December 30th for songs and January 15th for entrants.

Since14th November, when TVE opened the period to submit songs and receive candidatures from artists interested in the Spanish preselection for next Eurovision Song Contest, the public broadcaster has received over 2,000 telephone calls and e-mails. These requests were made in order to ask for further information about Misión Eurovisión and a longer term to submit themes and candidatures.

As TVE says in a note published in its website, the broadcaster "is to prolong the period for the reception of candidatures", both for songs (December 30th) and artists (January 15th).

The Spanish Final will be held over 7 weeks, starting on 13th Januaryand with the last show on 24th February. The singerwill be selected through two separate competitions, one tochoose the song and another one tochoose the singer. During the firstfour weeks,about 20 singers will go forward to the semi final which will be held after five weeks, and the top five singers (three of themchosen by televoting,two by a jury) will reach the final. In the 6th and 7th week, thethefivefinalists will each perform the final songs. Televoting will decide which song and singer will got to Helsinki. The shows will be hosted by Paula Vázquez.

Spain finished 21st in Athens with Las Ketchup and Bloody Mary. Nevertheless, they are directly qualified for the final round in 2007 as part of the 'big 4'.
