Boris Novković, the 2005 Croatian Eurovision Song Contest representative, has refused to take part in a game show on the Serbian Pink channel, after realising that the game would result in the mistreatment of animals.

The game Guess what's in the box involves putting small animals in boxes and contestants feeling them and guessing which animal is in the box. Boris stated that he did not want to have anything to do with something that he considers to be cruelty to animals.

As a result, Boris has been voted on top of the good people list of the Friends of the animals organisation! This international organisation consists of animal lovers who are vegetarian or vegan and regularly hold protests against animal cruelty.

In the autumn of 2004, the Croatian branch of this organisation held a protest outside the home of Vlatka Pokos, who competed in this year's Croatian Eurovision Song Contest national final (Dora), for wearing a fur coat of a breed of rare leopard which is close to being extinct.

Boris Novković finished 11th at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv with the song Vukovi umiru sami.
