The Malta council of culture and arts had a busy day since today doors were open for the submissions of entries for Maltasong 2007, the Maltese national final. ogaemalta.com revealed that 150 entries were submitted by noon with more than four hours to go before the closing time.
A panel of judges is now going to listen to all the songs and shortlist them so that the second phase can start: the singers will be asked to perform the entries behind closed doors and 14 songs will be chosen forthe semi final on 1st February. 6 out of them will qualify for the final round on 3rd February. The first shortlist is said to be expected on 26th November.
For the 2006 selection, 213 songs were submitted;186 in 2005. In 1999, a record of 272 entries were submitted to the Maltese final.
Fabrizio Faniello finished 24th – last – in this year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song I do. Therefore, Malta will have to enter the semi final round in Helsinki.
