esctoday.com has been informed that Tato Gomez submitted a pop oriented love song to the internal Swiss selection for the Eurovision Song Contest together with lyricist Stefan Engel. The demo CD was recorded with Randi who often works with Tato as a co-writer. Gomez told us that it would be an honour and pleasure to represent Switzerland with a unique song full of emotion that would touch everybody's heart.
Tato Gomez was born in Chile, though hehas lived in Germany for more than 20 years. His first contact with Eurovision came in 1989; he produced the German pre-selection song Ich such dich by ZouZou.
Switzerland has often looked outside its borders for Eurovision talent, but the Swiss music producer and singer DJ Bobo touched off an unusual amount of interest in the Swiss selection when he announced earlier on Swiss television that he would represent Switzerland if it was the "will of the people". He also appealed to national pride in suggesting that it would be nice to see Swiss talent representing the country.
Since then fans, both inside and outside Switzerland, have expressed interest in seeing a Swiss-based act enter the contest in 2007. The Swiss broadcaster SF has not commented on the movement DJ Bobo started, and they are encouraging artists from around the world to apply for the internal selection. The Swissapplication deadline has been extended until November 30. The selection committeeis expected to make and announce their selection in mid-December.
