Eurovision.tv reported today that Silvia Night, the controversial Icelandic participant in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, was arrested in Cannes last night. Eyewitnesses reported that police caught her after a 'remarkable protest action'. Nevertheless, it seems that this was just another publicity stunt by the Icelandic 2006 Eurovision Song Contest participant.

At the moment, the annual MIPCOM multimedia conferences are taking place in Cannes, France. The story published on eurovision.tv alleges that Silvia Night, whose real name is Ágústa Eva Erlensdóttir, came there to protest against her own TV show called The Silvia Night show. According to the singer, she is presented incompletely the wrong way in the programme. In a special release she said: "The Silvia Night Show is total junk. I am a little goodhearted girl who only does things which are good, and the people behind the TV series are making me look really bad."

Being all to well aware of the type of publicity stunts this particular character has attempted, we were a little skeptical about this story. Silvia's stunts range from setting up a faked eviction from her press conference in Athens, to upstaging Dutch participants Treble on an Icelandic chat show, to accusing reporters of turning the Greek public against her, to slapping her character's boyfriend live on television, she was even caught attempting to jump off a roof in Athens after failing to win a place in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.

Esctoday.com decided to contact the Central Police Station in Cannes to enquire about the reasons for Night / Erlensdóttir's arrest. We were told that they didn't know anything about her being arrested. We asked about both Silvia Night and Ágústa Eva Erlensdóttir, but the French police had nothing on record about a disturbance by, or arrest of either name. TheFrench policeman was not amused by our call, and seemed to consider that we were wasting his time!

Silvia Night's entry Congratulations finished 13th in the 2006 semi final, missing the qualification for the final round.
