Early reports are suggesting that Jan Werner Danielsen, who sang for Norway at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest with former winner Elisabeth Andreassen has been found dead at his home in Oslo, Norway.
Jan Werner came to prominence in Norway in 1988, winning a televised music competition at the age of 12, the prize was his first record deal. He went on to sing for the Hamar Symphony Orchestraover the next five years.
In 1994, he sang at the Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games before teaming up with Andreassen – one half of 1985 Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest winners, Bobbysocks. The two sang power ballad Duett and racked up 76 points to finish a credible 6th place.
The duo remained close, singing together on several tours and concerts. They recorded a Christmas album together in 1999. In that time, Werner's solo career was gaining pace. His debut solo album went Gold in 1995 and his most recent, 4th album, Singer of songs reached second place in the album charts in Norway following it's 2003 release.
Jan had been due to appear in concert this week, but it was cancelled due to poor health. He had been working on a new album that was due for release in November. It is too early to say if this will now be released.
As yet, we have not been told the exact cause of death, but we will update this article with further news. We believe that he was found dead at his apartment by a friend, and we have been informed that he had been suffering an illness for the last two months. The police in Oslo have say they believe that there is no evidence of criminal action.
