Norwegian broadcaster NRK has announced the details on how to choose their Eurovision Song Contest entry for Helsinki. They will stick to the same formula as in 2006 with three semi finals and a grand final.

18 songs will be competing in Norsk Melodi Grand Prix 2007. Two songs out of each semi final will qualify directly for the final while spot three and four will enter a second chance round. From that, two further songs will qualify, therefore eight songs will be presented in the final.

In 2007, the semi finals will be broadcast on Saturdays instead of Fridays. According to NRK, this is a much better broadcasting time for them, and they are happy they finally got it. The shows will take place in different cities. The final will take place in Olso Spectrum, where the Eurovision Song Contest was held in 1996, on 10th February.

List of dates and venues:
  • 1st semi final: 20th January 2007 in Alta
  • 2nd semi final: 27th January 2007 in Stokke
  • 3rd semi final: 3rd February 2007
  • second chance round: February 2007
  • final: 10th February 2007 in Oslo

The venue of the third semi final as well as the venue and date of the second chance round will be announced soon.

In 2006, Norway finished 14th in the final round with Alvedansen, performed by Christine Gulbrandsen. Therefore, they will have to enter the semi final in 2007.
