Deep in the corridors of SVT, preparations for Sweden's Melodifestivalen 2007 are well under way. So far, little about potential contestants has been leaked, until former Pop Idol contestant Alex Falk spoke publicly this week about his hopes to enter the national selection process with three songs.

Speaking to TV4 – the broadcaster responsible for the production of the Swedish version of Pop Idol – Alex confessed that he has been working on three songs for submission to the Melodifestivalen rounds of 2007. "I hope at least one of them is selected", he added, no doubt hoping that the Swedish selection shows will bring him more success than his Pop Idol attempt.

Following the trend
Stockholm-based Alex, if successfully selected, will not be the first reality pop contestant to make it into the Melodifestivalen. Swedish Fame Factory winner of 2005, Sandra Oxenryd, made it to the Eurovision Song Contest Semifinal of 2006 singing Through my window for Estonia, while Magnus Bäcklund and Jessica Andersson met on the same show, and ended up singing as the duo Fame for Sweden in 2003. Countless other contestants have made appearances in the qualifier and final rounds of Melodifestivalen, without making it to the actual Eurovision Song Contest itself.
