Corinna May, who has been blind since birth, confessed:” I cannot see the audience, but I can feel it and hear it.
At the end of press conference, when she started to sing a verse from “I Can't Live Without Music”, the backing vocalists joined her, Ralph Siegel started conducting and the audience clapped along. She assured her audience that the song title truly represents the philosophy of her life. Corinna, whose winning song at the German national final in 1999 was disqualified because it had been previously published by the author, said that she is very motivated to participate, despite the fact that she had promised in the past never to take part in Eurovision.
The press conference for the German Delegation brought a crowd to the press tent, where a shocking announcement was made. Ralph Siegel, who started at Eurovision in 1979 and is now participating for the 13th time, said that this would be his last.
Composer Siegel and lyricist Bernd Meinungen won Eurovision with their song “Ein Bisschen Frieden” exactly 20 years ago, performing in 18th position, just like Corinna this year. When asked whether he believes in lucky numbers, Siegel remarked that although this is his 13th Eurovision, it would be great to win again.
Corinna was accompanied by the trio Queensize – Türlay Sanlav, Kisha Parker and Dawn Schönherz – and two other singers, Filiz Aktepe and Nadine Kraft. The girls with different ethnic backrounds all support Corinna on the stage because “ they just love her“.
Head of German Delegation Jürgen Meier-Beer admitted that he was extremely impressed by the work of Estonian Television. “Whoever will win this year has a very hard time to reach the level of Estonian Television with their show,” he commented.
