OGAE UK are planning to host a fun-packed event in the Eurovision Song Contest city of 1998, Birmingham this September.
OGAE(UK), the UK Eurovision fan club, will host a special one-day party for both OGAE members and non-members this September. The Birmingham Bash takes place on Saturday 2 September at Jury's Inn in Birmingham, the host city of the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest. Amongst the day's activities will be a contest giving Eurovision's less successful songs a chance to shine, a glittering Awards ceremony with
special 'Stars in their Eyes' performances, and a fantastic disco with a Eurovision playlist devised by those attending the Bash.
The line-up
The day will start at 2.30pm, and after registration the fun kicks off with 'The Under 10s Song Contest'. The excitement is sure to mount as 15 songs that never made it into double figures battle it out to see which one really should have scored douze points! After an early evening buffet, there's bound to be tears and surprises as the "Golden Star" Awards – Eurovision's answer to the Oscars – are handed out. Prior to the Bash, members will have voted for their favourites, and during the Awards Ceremony the winners will be announced. Interspersed between the awards will be special "Stars In Their Eurovision Eyes" performances from some of the more adventurous attendees. The glitzy ceremony will end with the award for best "Live Act" of the evening.
Of course no Eurovision party would be complete without a EuroDisco. And to make sure everyone hears the songs they like, those at the Bash will have the chance to submit their own playlists in advance. So there's no excuse not to dance!
