Germany's leading tabloid Bild decided to create another “Eurovision scandal”: now it's Lordi against Nicole! In yesterday's edition, Bild featured Germany's only Eurovision winner (back in 1982), Nicole, saying that the Finnish monster rockers would be “better placed in a haunted house than on the Eurovision stage”.
Today, Lordi fired back at Nicole, calling her "square, boring and dire" and pointing out that times have changed since she won more than 20 years ago. Lordi was also quoted sayingunpleasant things about Jane Comerford, the femalelead singer of Texas Lightning, Germany's represantatives this year. It is however questionable if Lordi really said this:Bild hasa very badreputation of making up interviews as well as making up stories.
Meanwhile, Lordi gave an interview to the Hamburger Abendblatt. Asked about their chances at Eurovision, the band leader said: "Does it really matter? In music, there is no better or worse. We are happy and thankful to participate and to be allowed to entertain the viewers. So we can show Europe how to rock! Without our entry 'Hard Rock Hallelujah', everything would sound the same". Regarding negative reactions from religious groups in Finland, Lordi said: "I'm surprised. Believers should be the most open and tolerant people of all, as the Holy Scripture demands. But then, I thankthem for the promotion they are doing for us."Lordi also displayed great respect for Swedish Eurovision winners Abba: "Great songs. Great melodies. Great harmonies. There is a reason may metal bands cover songs like 'Money Money Money' or 'SOS'." Finally, Lordi proved to be a Eurovision connaisseur. When the Abendblatt reporter said that Abba were the only Eurovision winners ever to start a world career after winning the Contest, Lordi protested: "How can you forget Céline Dion?"
