Iceland and the Eurovision Song Contest
In 1999, Iceland managed to come second with Selma's All out of luck. When she tried again last year, with If I had your love, she didn't even manage to reach the final of the competition, leaving her own fans and fans of the contest behind in a state of shock. This year, Iceland relied on a renewed national selection. Eva Erlendsdóttir, alias Silvia Night, won the contest on 18th February with her remarkable song Til hamingju Ísland, translated into Congratulations for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Silvia Night
Eva Erlendsdóttir was born in 1982 and gained fame with the semi-reality show Sjáumst með Silvíu Nótt. She won an award for Best Television Programme and an award for Best Television Personality of the year in Iceland. In her song for the Eurovision Song Contest she gives an ode to herself and sings about the victory she's heading for. The character is certainly adorable, but nevertheless controversial from time to time.
