Ireland and the Eurovision Song Contest
After You're a star failed to bring the success the Irish hoped for, RTÉ decided for a change. THe more than popular Brian Kennedy was asked to represent the country. A jury picked four songs, but one of them dropped out before the song selection event. On 17th February, Kennedy saw his own composition Every song is a cry for love winning.
Brian Kennedy
The 39-year old Brian Kennedy grew up in Belfast and worked with artists like Van Morrison, The Corrs, Tina Turner, Ronan Keating, Secret Garden (Norway 1995) and Sinead O'Connor. In 2000 he became a member of Riverdance, which broke through in 1994 after the interval act at the Eurovision Song Contest. He performed as many as 290 times on Broadway with the group. With his George Best-tribute he reached the fourth place in the British charts.
