The construction of the stage for this year's Eurovision Song Contest is on schedule! Lights rigging and stage construction started on 22nd of March and will last until 2nd May. According to stage designer Ilias Ledakis, the scenery will be “very Greek”.
The setting will be twice as large as last year's in Kyiv. “The sun, the sea and an ancient stage will come to life inside the OAKA stadium with the help of modern technology”, the stage designer says. Sets, lights and people, weighing a total of 80 tonnes, will be hanging from the roof of the stadium, while the colours and shapes of the stage will be changing from song to song. Although their lips are sealed, the people working for the setting promise “a spectacular show with the most stunning effects in the history of the contest”.
The main stage has been based on the structure of an ancient theatre. Its elements have the ability to move and transform into a galactic vehicle. Artistic Director Fokas Evangelinos said: “As viewers, you will travel back in time as part of a primitive crowd, you will picture scenes from the Greek mythology and tradition”.
