A year after the Orange revolution and the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, Ukrainians go to the polling stations to vote for a new parliament. Backing current president Yushchenko, 2004 Eurovision Song Contest winner Ruslana is on the list.
After the Orange revolution, that brought down initial presidential elections winner Yanukovic in favour of Yushchenko, it was questioned if Ukraine would be able to organise the Eurovision Song Contest. At the end, it appeared this was no problem at all. During the year leading up to the 2005 contest, Ruslana was always present to support both the president as well as the organisers of the contest.
Now Yushchenko's popularity is decreasing due to heavy critics, Ruslana continues to support the president. It is expected that Yanukovic' party will win the elections, leaving Yushchenko's party on the second place. Based on polls, none of the parties will get enough votes to rule in the 450-member parliament, which means a coalition has to be formed.
Ruslana won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with Wild dances, only one year after Ukraine's debute at the contest. One year later, she co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest from the greenroom.
