French song facing rewrite

Virginie Pouchin, who won the French selection earlier this week and will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, today appeared on the satirical news show On a tout essayé. Amongst other things, she talked about her song Vous c'est nous and her concerns about its unsuitability for her.

Virginie explained that she approached the writer of the song, Corneille Nyungura, and put across her worries that the song did not suit her. Corneille admitted that he had written Vous c'est nous with a male vocalist in mind, and has agreed to rework the song with Virginie. This means that soon, there will be a brand new version of the French entry.

There was a double Eurovision connection in today's broadcast of On a tout essayé, in that the presenter is French Eurovision Song Contest commentator Laurent Ruquier.

France's reworked entry for Athens will be presented directly in the international final this May, due to France being a member of the Big Four, with an assured place in the final each year.
