William “Billy” Butt, Swedish producer and composer of 2005 Lithuanian entry Little by little, has criticised the Lithuanian selection for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. He is quoted as saying LT United will bring shame to Lithuania in Athens.

The Irish born producer who now works in Sweden and Lithuania said to the Lithuanian newspaper Vakarų ekspresas When I heard the final result, my biggest fear became true. The winning song, We are the winners, is probably one of the worst and most crazy songs from the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. It will bring total failure and international shame to Lithuania.

He also mentioned that he understands why the viewers chose the song by LT United. He says that Lithuanians are nationalists and, according to him, chauvinism created the foundation for the song to win. Another factor in the victory was the popularity of the singers in Lithuania.

In my opinion, InCulto had to win. Their song would have saved Lithuania from the shame that We are the winners will bring in Athens. My advice, to save the country from this shame: disqualify the winning song and let InCulto represent Lithuania. At worst, the Lithuanians won't need to blush, the producer suggested.

“Billy” Butt is certainly qualified to talk about finishing last in the Eurovision song contest. Lithuania will take part in the semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 18th, following last year's result when Butt's song Little by little finished in last place in the semi final.
