To select its entry for Athens, German television (NDR) is organising one of the biggest Eurovision Song Contest parties Germany has ever seen. On the 9th March, the German audience will choose the entry to represent their country in the upcoming contest in Athens. NDR is planning Der Deutsche Vorentscheid 2006 Die Gala zum Grand Prix not only to be a simple selection procedure but also a “huge Eurovision Song Contest party”.
As reported before, Vicky Leandros, Thomas Anders and Texas Lightning are in the running to win the German ticket to the 51st Eurovision Song Contest. Apart from presenting the songs they hope to take to Athens, the three candidates will also try to impress the voters by interpreting a classic Eurovision Song Contest entry. NDR hasnt yet indicated which classic each artist will sing.
“A dream comes true”, is how Thomans Hermanns, the famous German Eurovision Song Contest fan and TV commentator, feels about hosting the show in Hamburg. Hermanns promises a big event in honour of the contest and the guest list is long, including such highlights as Nicole, The Olsen Brothers, Brotherhood of Man, Johnny Logan and Dana International.
The show will take place at the Deutschen Schauspielhaus, in Hamburg, and the tickets cost between EUR 26 and EUR 61. Tickets can be bought at the theatre or by calling 01805-663 661 (0,12/min from a German telephone).
As a member of the Big-4, Germany will participate in the final on the 20th May.
