Eurosong 2006 is sold to top favourite Belle Perez, the complot theory of Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws sounds. The singer would only have agreed to participate in the Belgian selections on the condition that she will go to Athens, heats or not. “Nonsense”, says the singer of El mundo bailando.
The reason for all commotion, according the newspaper, is that a concert of Belle Perez in the Netherlands which was scheduled for 20th May, the day of the Eurovision Song Contest final, was rescheduled. After consultation with the organisers, it was decided to move the concert to 25th May.
The manager of Belle Perez admits that the Eurovision Song Contest played a role in the decision, in case Belle Perez would be in Greece at that time. “We only want to keep our promises, not that we are already sure of our victory. We have signed a contract with VRT. The chance that Belle wins exists after all”, the manager says.
Perez hopes that these “tales won't turn against me”. Dries Verhaeghe, the producer of Eurosong 2006 said it is impossible that the victory is sold to the top favourite. “There are too many different juries, which we cannot control. And even if we would be scheming: the televoting is being controlled by a bailiff of court”.
On Sunday, Flemish-Spanish singer Belle Perez sings El mundo bailando, a song which she co-wrote, in the fourth heat of Eurosong 2006. It is an uptempo Latin pop song with an ethnic flavour. Belle Perez got famous after participation in the heats of Eurosong 1999 with the song Hello world.
