Portuguese broadcaster RTP will organise a national final with 10 songs, bringing back the Festival da Canção formula. The national selection will take place in mid-March somewhere in or near Lisbon. According to Oikotimes.com, this was decided during a meeting last Friday.

Five producers will be invited to come up with two songs each, performed by singers chosen by the producers themselves. The invitations are to be addressed this week and the names to be confirmed in the next few days.

RTP demands at least one of the songs of each producer has one or more associations with Portugal, but “always with a touch of modernity so it can appeal to all audiences”, José Poiares, head of the Portuguese delegation, said.

Because 2B came 17th with 51 points in Kyiv, Portugal has to enter the semifinal of the 51st Eurovision Song Contest.
