On 6th August, the 10th IAAF World Championships Athletics begin in Helsinki. At the opening ceremony, this year's Finnish Eurovision Song Contest representative Geir Rönning will be perfoming the theme song of the championships. Other artists who have been invited to perform in the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki include Helena Paparizou and Nightwish.

The opening ceremony of the World Championships Athletics, to take place on Saturday 6th August in Helsinki, will be split into two parts. In part one, scheduled at 16:30 CET, Eurovision Song Contest winner Helena Paparizou will be performing among Finnish stars, including Nightwish, the second runner-up of the Finnish national final in 2000, Esa-Pekka Salonen, opera singer Matti Salminen, Laura Bono, Värttinä, Apocalyptica and Leningrad Cowboys.

The real apotheosis of the opening day is however scheduled after the women's 10.000 meter final, at around 21:00 CET, when this year's Finnish Eurovision Song Contest representative Geir Rönning will be performing the theme song of the 10th IAAF World Championships Athletics. The song is entitled Victory.

On 19th May in Kyiv, Geir Rönning sang Why in the semifinal of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. With an 18th place, he did not succeed in qualifying Finland for the final.
