Norwegian broadcaster NRK has launched the search for the song to represent Norway at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. Unlike this year, the 2006 selections are an open competion again. Songs for Melodi Grand Prix 2006 can be submitted until 1st October 2005.
Songs for Melodi Grand Prix 2006 may not be longer than 3 minutes. Entries lasting up to 3:20 will be considered for participation, but will have to be shortened before the contest. Foreign composers are allowed to submit their proposals. NRK however reserves the right to select the performer of international productions.
Artists bidding for participation should be aged 16 by 18th May 2006, the day of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest semifinal. Audio files, accompanied by the names of the performers, composers and songwriters should reach NRK by 1st October 2005.
The 2005 edition of Melodi Grand Prix was won by Wig Wam. The Norwegian rockers finished 9th in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest final with the song In my dreams.
