Nicole Josy has had an operation for breast cancer last Friday. Together with Hugo Sigal, Nicole represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973. The medical problems are putting a damper on the party as this year Nicole & Hugo are celebrating 35 years of career with a new record deal, a new single, a best off album and a brand new show.
The cancer in Nicole's left breast was discovered in an early stage. Last Friday Nicole underwent surgery. More examinations will decide about a further treatment. The ever optimistic couple however announced that their new summer show and best off album will not be postponed or cancelled.
Nicole & Hugo made their first bid for representing Belgium as a duo (Nicole participated solo in the Belgian final in 1968) at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971. They won the Belgian final with the song Goeiemorgen, morgen but Nicole got ill. Jacques Raymond and Lily Castel replaced the couple in the last resort.
In 1973 Nicole & Hugo got a second chance. In spite of flashy purple suits and a legendary performance, Baby, baby got no further than a last place in Luxembourg. In 2004 they were stranded in one of the semifinals of Eurosong 2004 with Love is all around.
Esctoday.com wishes Nicole a fast recovery and together with Hugo a lot of strenght in these difficult days.
