Ireland has been successful in winning the Eurovision Song Contest seven times and, due to that success, some of their biggest stars who won the contest are preparing for a second round of the tour called Best of Eurovision later this year.

During the tour in October 2012 Pat O’Mahoney, the producer/director of RTÉ’s Reality Bites series, went behind the scenes and asked some searching questions of the six artists. They are Johnny Logan, Niamh Kavanagh, Linda Martin, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan. He also examined the work that goes on behind the scenes.

The makers of the show are quoted as saying – In A Eurovision Affair Pat captures both the plethora of last-minute rehearsal chaos that would have damned lesser productions and how, out on the road, things rarely go to plan.

The programme will be broadcast from 22:30 to 23:30 (CET) on RTÉ Two (terrestrial and satellite for viewers in Ireland) and you can click for the webstream here.

The Irish representative will be chosen by a combination of televoting and a jury (50/50) on 22 February in a Late Late Show Eurosong special.

I attended my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1995, and from 1996 presented daily live reports for radio stations from the event. Since then I have been providing material from everywhere the contest has been held. I also enjoy compiling most of the video materials for three UK ESC events each year. In 2010 I first provided material for esctoday.com.
