One of the best things about the Eurovision Song Contest as an event is the way that everybody cheers on everybody else. One of the developing stories this year is the budding friendship between to of the competition�s favourites, Angelica Agurbash of Belarus and Israel�s Shiri Maimon.
The pair first met during Angelica�s promotional tour when she arrived in Israel. Shiri says �The connection between us is because she is very warm. She came from Russia, she kisses and hugs and in Israel, we love it. There is a connection because we are kind of the same.
Angelica returns the compliments happily, �Shiri is wonderful, we got on so well in Israel, and it�s great to see her here. She has a great song. It�s amazing, we even have the same birthday�. Apart from this coincidence, the two beautiful women sing one after the other in the Semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest, with Israel 7th and Belarus 8th.
At Shiri�s press conference today, she was asked about the other women competing to qualify for the final. She picked out Angelica, saying that she is a great performer and her song is strong. In the Belarus press conference, which immediately followed Israel�s, Angelica picked out Shiri as the toughest competitor, saying how much she likes her and her song.
In fact, their birthdays will be on Tuesday May 17th here in Kiev. Even though their friendship blossoms, they are very different characters in many ways. The Israeli delegation have planned a small private affair for Shiri, whilst Angelica hosts an extravagant bash at a yet to be disclosed location, although Shiri promises to drop in to share some of their special day together.
