The third live selection show from Finland took place tonight at The Cirkus Club in Helsinki. This was the Semi-Final (or Second Chance) for six, very varied, songs. Each of the artists was hoping to win a place in the Final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu UMK.

After voting from the professional jury and the public, the lucky songs chosen were:

  • Great Wide North – Flags
  • Lucy Was Driving – Dancing all across the universe
  • Elina Orkoneva – He’s not my man
  • Last Panda – Saturday night forever

with Iina Salin – Last night and Rautakoura – Ilmalaivalla (On an airship) being eliminated.

The songs already qualified are:

  • Diandra – Colliding into you
  • Mikael Saari – We should be through.
  • Krista Siegfrids – Marry me
  • Arion – Lost

Who will represent Finland in Malmo? We will find out on 9th February 2012, when the national final will take place. You can listen to all the participating songs here. Finland will compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on 16 May 2013.

I attended my first Eurovision Song Contest in 1995, and from 1996 presented daily live reports for radio stations from the event. Since then I have been providing material from everywhere the contest has been held. I also enjoy compiling most of the video materials for three UK ESC events each year. In 2010 I first provided material for esctoday.com.
