With the song Amar, 2B will be representing Portugal at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. 2B was created by Portuguese broadcaster RTP especially for the Eurovision Song Contest. In cooperation with Rogério Berrucho and Miguel Ferreira of escportugal.pt.vu and Miguel Granja we had an interview with Rui and Luciana.
Can you shortly introduce yourselves?
Rui: I'm a man, single… (laughs) just kidding. I'm extroverted, after all I'm Sagittarius, always kidding, sometimes more than I should, I'm a little stubborn even if I don't show it much, I'm stubborn to myself and very optimistic. I'm objective, a dreamer, yet I keep my both feet on the floor. I love my family, to which I'm strongly bound, even if we don't spend much time together, I'm a fighter though discrete, I'm not the kind of giving airs of it, I do my job on my own.
Luciana: I'm very sensitive, shy, quiet (laughs), calm, extremely curious. I'm also very bound to my family, specially to my mother and sister. Also a fighter, I always keep my faith and hope. I'm religious, generous, a golden heart, sometimes, much too humble. I guess this is what I am.
How does it feel to represent your country in such a huge event as the Eurovision Song Contest?
Luciana: That's what's frightening (laughs).
Rui: To begin with, representing Portugal, in sports or as an artist, is a reason to be proud. It's thrilling. I don't feel nervous, because I love to sing and on stage I really feel at home. To feel a great audience and to know we're defending Portugal is a great responsibility and a great honor too. It's a chance many singers would die for, specially to us, we're just starting our careers and this may be a great begin, like a launcher. We'd love to make the Portuguese audience proud of us and of our country… Let's hope we will achieve through our music something similar soccer did.
Luciana: Actually Rui said it all. I'd add that it is indeed a great responsibility. I think that's what 10 million people feel, and many of them would love to be in our shoes. It's a great honor and we hope we deserve it. Just like Rui said, it's thrilling but we don't feel stressed at all, nor fear in any way, because we're not defending somebody else's achievement. This is the first time we're trying it for real, and go further in the Eurovision Song Contest, so all that comes will be gained.
