Nicosia born singer and songwriter Yiorgos Papadopoulos is the Cypriot broadcaster’s first choice to represent the island to the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest as confirmed by Heaven Music, the singer’s label.

The Cypriot broadcaster is one of the first to start their selection process for the singer who will represent the country in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest to be hosted by Sweden in May. RIK have invited Yiorgos Papadopoulos, a young artist with a considerable number of released CD’s and CD singles in his portofolio to fly the Cypriot flag in Malmo.

The artist is considering the proposal seriously but nothing has been finalised yet. More information is expected next week.

Yiorgos Papadopoulos started his career in Cyprus in 2003 with a single written by Christos Dantis, composer of My number one, the Greek winning entry in 2005. Since then he has released CD’s both in Cyprus and Greece and many of his singles have achieved Gold status.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain. I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
