Portuguese broadcaster RTP turns back to the Festival da Canção in order to select a representative for the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev. As our correspondents in Portugal informed us, the Portuguese national final will again replace the Operação Triunfo format, used the previous two years.

In 2003 RTP internally selected Rita Guerra to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song Deixa-me sonhar was selected during an Operação Triunfo gala. Last year, Sofia won Operação Triunfo with the song Foi magia and represented Portugal in Istanbul.

For 2005, Portuguese broadcaster RTP turns back to the national final concept of Festival da Canção, which was used before. A conclusion we can make after reading this week's TV 7 Dias. RTP however hasn't officially confirmed esctoday.com the news yet.

Festival da Canção took place for the last time in 2001 when MTM won the Portuguese national final with the song Só sei ser feliz assim. Portugal will participate in the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held on 19th May in Kiev.
