Iceland to hold internal selection

Icelandic broadcaster RUV has decided last Friday not to hold a national final in order to select their 2005 Eurovision Song Contest rerpesentative. Instead, one artist will be appointed to partcipate in Kiev.

Bjarni Guðmundsson, general manager for RUV, says there are several reasons for this decision. First of all for finacial reasons and furthermore RUV is planning some big projects for next year, including the two new TV series Kallakaffi and Allir litir hafsins.

Therefore we had to make a decision. Holding a national selection here in Iceland is both big and expensive, so we decided not to organise one,” explains Bjarni Guðmundsson. Last year's Icelandic rerpesentative Jonsi was internally selected as well.

Earlier, RÚV told esctoday.com that a national final would take place on 19th February, but it seems that a combination of reasons made the Icelandic broadcaster to change its mind.

Iceland will appear in the qualifier round of the Eurovision Song Contest to be held on 19th May 2005 in Kiev, Ukraine.
