The chance that Germany will join the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 is rather small. At this year's edition, Germany was the only country of the Big 4 still to boycott the contest, after France joined in Lillehammer. The United Kingdom and Spain were already present at the first edition in 2003.
In a reaction to esctoday.com Jürgen Meier-Beer, responsible for Eurovision matters at NDR, states that “Germany did not join the Junior Eurovision Song Contest because no TV professional believes in a success of the existing concept under the specific German market conditions.”
This doesn't mean that Germany will stay absent at the contest for ever. German broadcaster NDR keeps following new evolutions. A participation next year in Hasselt however doesn't seem to be very likely. “I do not expect any change,” concluded Meier-Beer. “Although I am waiting for an analysis of the second edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.”
Next year's edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest takes place on 26th November in Hasselt, Belgium.
