Jürgen Meier-Beer , Head of Eurovision at German broadcaster NDR, informed esctoday.com that the cooperation with German music channel VIVA for the German national Eurovision Song Contest selections has been ended. A final decision about the concept of the upcoming German national final has not yet been made.

The cooperation with VIVA was introduced last year in order to ensure the participation of successful chart acts in the German national final and turned out to work well. Some of Germany's most popular artists including Sabrina Setlur, Wonderwall and Scooter entered the contest. The cooperation however ends after only one year. “We will not cooperate with VIVA again after their changes,” told Jürgen Meier-Beer to esctoday.com.

As of 2005, VIVA and MTV Germany, who now belong to the same holding, will adapt their programs in order to be complementary instead of being substitutes. VIVA will start presenting itself as the national youth channel with chart music and popular formats, focussing on a rather female target group, aged 10 to 29. Esctoday.com contacted VIVA about this matter and we are currently awaiting a reaction.

A new concept with strong names is still being discussed” adds Meier-Beer. “It will be published as soon as the decision has been made.” In other words: A final decision about the concept of the upcoming German national final has not yet been made and all lists of participants that have already appeared on the internet are completely fake.

As we reported earlier, the German national final in which the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest entry will be selected will be held on 12th March. Location for the show is the German capital, Berlin.
