SF DRS reacts on esctoday.com against the accusations that were made yesterday in Swiss news paper Blick. Earlier this week Swiss broadcaster SF DRS announced that the Estonian band Vanilla Ninja will represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005.
According to Blick, “the Swiss music scene is shocked by the selection of the Estonian band Vanilla Ninja. Their selection is a slap in the face of the Swiss musicians and like this, the Eurovision Song Contest has totally lost its purpose.”
In an answer to the campaign started by Blick yesterday Florian Kohler, in charge of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, explains that “in today's paper, Blick admits that SF DRS, TSR and TSI had definitely been open to give any successful Swiss artist a chance to enrole for the national preselection. Yet, the really successful ones did not enrole, thus Vanilla Ninja was by far the most promising entry!”
SF DRS also gave us more information on the Swiss song selection. It is for sure that the song will be written by David Brandes, who was born in Basel and went to school in Ettingen (both in Switzerland). By the end of January 2005, the three Swiss broadcaster SF DRS, TSR and TSI will decide whether there will be a presentation of 3 songs to be televoted on, or if SF DRS, TSR and TSI will just decide on which song Vanilla Ninja will sing in Kiev.
Switzerland competes in the qualifier round of the Eurovision Song Contest, to take place on 19th May 2005.
