After the withdrawal of Kaliopi, five singers are left in the Macedonian selections for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. All of them were presented last Sunday during Eurovision day in Macedonia. The show turned out to be a huge success and offered MKRTV a market share of 60%.
MKRTV informed us that Kaliopi has cancelled her participation because she only wanted to go to the Eurovision Song Contest if she would have been MKRTV's one and only choice, referring to the way last year's Macedonian representative Tose Proeski had been selected.
Kaliopi Grill is the most well-known Macedonian singer in the former Yugoslavian countries and has been successful since the eighties. In 1996 she was the first Macedonian representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. However, her song Samo ti did not survive the audio-preselection organized by the European Broadcasting Union. Samo ti finished 26th and never reached the stage of the contest in Oslo.
The five singers left in the Macedonian selections are Martin Vucic, Tamara, Tijana, Superhiks and Aleksandra Pileva. Until 14th November, 15:00 CET, the Macedonian audience can televote for their favourites. The televotes count for 50% of the total and will be added to the points of a professional jury.
On Sunday night 14th November, the results will be presented in the program Don't get asleep now. The two artists who receive the most points proceed to the final in which they will both perform four songs. FYR Macedonia selects their song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 on 19th February 2005.
