by Sietse Bakker 100 views

The European Broadcasting Union organises the Eurovision Song Contest every year, together with the host broadcaster. Every year, the EBU takes new decisions. Often, their decisions are widely criticized. Chief Editor Sietse Bakker gives his personal comments on the EBU's policy.

Making decisions about such a large television event as the Eurovision Song Contest is, without any doubt, a difficult task. Svante Stockselius, who gained experience working at the Swedish broadcaster SVT, is in charge of supervising the EBU's song contest projects, including the Eurovision Song Contest. Since Christine Marchal-Ortiz left, the Eurovision Song Contest changes almost continuously to enlarge its reach, its popularity and its commercial flexibility. And although the contest is a public, non-commercial matter, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be profitable! The participating broadcasters invest a lot of money in their participation and often hope to get back some kind of revenue for their investment.
