The Maltese Song for Europe Festival 2005 will be held on 18th and 19th Febuary 2005. For the final 16 songs will be selected. These songs will later on be released on a compilation album.
Composers and authors who submit songs for Song for Europe Festival 2005 may be of any nationality participating in the Eurovision Song Contest whilst singers should be of Maltese Nationality. Nevertheless, singers having one Maltese parent, not necessarily residing in Malta, can participate too. Songs should be submitted before 19th November 2004.
The selection of the songs for the Song for Europe Festival 2005 will take place in a number of phases. Only 50 compositions shall remain during the live phase, wherein participants sing live for the first time before a jury appointed by the Maltasong Board. Following this phase, 16 compositions shall make it to the final.
In the final, all 16 songs will be judged again either by a jury appointed by the Maltasong Board or by televoting, or both, or in any other manner as decided by the Maltasong Board. In the finals, every singer shall interpret only one song.
The 16 songs will be released on a Song for Europe Festival 2005 compilation album.
